prince was a hero of multi-genre renaissance-man stylings. dude could do whatever he wanted with little scrutiny because he was so good at all of it. his debut album was recorded on his own and then distributed by a label if I am not mistaken. (have not googled this so i'm just going off of memory)
-my first vinyl record that i purchased myself was from a tag sale and was Purple Rain.
