New site? Maybe some day.
he was so good the browns didn't even want him last year |
The Browns were pretty stacked with young wide receivers. He had some productive weeks with Drew Brees in New Orleans the previous year. Either way, I don't see him making the 2010 roster especially if Brandon Tate comes back healthy, and the Pats take another WR anywhere in the first 4 rounds. |
And btw, the Boo Urns 2010 draft preview was already started in advance of the combine. This year's will be even more massive. As far as WR goes there's one guy I'm really pushing for...
I say it's a long shot and probably not practical but why not go after Brian Westbrook? It's been a long time since the Pats had a productive running back and I think Westbrook still has it. Still surprised the Eagles cut him. Hell, even the Chargers cut Tomlinson. This looks like an exciting free agency. |

Yeah, I'm pushing for the black one too! |

he was solid that year then fell off the map. maybe he was hurt. |

you and me both man....he would be amazing in this offense...that is if O'Brien doesn't fuck it up again |

i'd throw a few bucks at tomlinson. i'd rather have the current tomlinson than some of the backs the pats have. westbrook might retire because of his knee. |

they could probably grab him in the 2nd or 3rd round. that would rule. |
Didn't everyone say the same thing when we signed welker? |

I don't want either of them....LT is a glorified goal line back now, and that's it....and Faulk gives you everything Westbrook does without being injury prone |
Barry Sanders > Bo Jackson in that game. |

i wouldn't mind LT but i feel exactly the same way you do about westbrook. when he's healthy, he's better than faulk, but at this point i don't see him being as valuable as faulk. he'd cost more and would play less. not worth it. |
i bet it beats galloway/aiken |
I had heard rumors about Dieon Branch wanting to be traded back. He's be a pretty good option for a Welker replacement/3rd reciever.
David Patton, you dont risk anything by signing him. If he is healthy enough to make the roster he'd be able to contribute. |
1. LT will never play for the Patriots.
2. Westbrook is as talented as they come but he's a huuuuge gamble injury wise. I like his odds a lot better in a committee style running back system like New England or Denver though. I'd consider it a possibility for the Pats given that this isn't an especially RB heavy draft. Keep an eye on Javid Best out of Cal to be a possibility as the next Kevin Faulk though.
3. If the Pats don't take Damian Williams with the 44th pick they're not getting him. There's a big divide between the top 5 or so WR's and the rest of the pack. You've got to believe Baltimore is picking up a WR first round, and maybe Miami or Cincy. But I think early 2nd round you're going to see a run on WRs. |
4. I'd absolutely Deion Branch... if Branch takes about a 90% paycut. |
there is only one LT, LAWRENCE TAYLOR
I don't disagree with you. |
Barry Sanders > Bo Jackson IRL |
fixed. |
There's a rumor going around at the combine that Jason Campbell might be traded to Buffalo for Donte Whitner and a draft pick.
That's a great trade... if you're the rest of the AFC east. |
as far as RBs in the draft for the Pats go, Ryan Mathews from Fresno State gets my stamp of approval |

Matthews would be an interesting project. A lot of the big name RBs in this year's class are finesse guys, and not really power running guys. Mathews is 5-11 220 and hits a hole without making a production out of it.
I also don't hate Ben Tate of Auburn from the few games I saw him in. |
Mathews has power and speed and can catch, which is why I'm high on him....he seems like he could be the total package, and he can be had in the late 2nd round
never seen Tate play, but I do also like Dexter McCluster from Ole Miss...very versatile...you can split him out and returns kicks and punts....the stereotypical "Belichick guy" |
McCluster is a great athlete, and a really versatile player. But he's also really small. 5-8 165 lbs. He's about 15 lbs lighter than Darren Sproles.
Look at the guys Belichick usually likes:
Sammy Morris 6-0 220 lbs
Laurence Maroney 5-11 220 lbs
Fred Taylor 6-1 228 lbs
BJGE 5-11 215 lbs
Lamont Jordan 5-10 242 lbs
COREY DILLON 6-1 225 lbs
Kevin Faulk 5-8 202 lbs
Mortensen had a good quote about McCluster and the Pats along the lines of if you hate the way Maroney dances around the hole the difference between the two is night and day. But I'm very concerned about his size. |
great point
we know BB likes big LBs and OL and short CBs, maybe he likes big RBs too
Mathews is 5'11" 223lbs, Tate is 5'11" 214lbs, Best is 5'10" 198lbs....all are pretty much in that mold...Best might be a tad small |
