Awesome guys!!! Keep a good eye on van/truck like check the fluids, tires and all that shit. Keep at least one eye your gear during shows. Knock em dead guys and good luck.

Avoid:

1 pair of pants, 3 pairs of underwear/socks/shirts. Laundromat is your friend. And bring someone that knows how to repair the van when it breaks down. Oh, and smoke weed to make time go by.

When ever I hit the road I always keep one of these close by... The worth T ball bats are the ones I dig... Compact and you can swing them faster when in a pinch...

I had the same idea. Last time touring with Pillory, the guys thought I was crazy for throwing one of these under my seat:




Same reasons as you: shorter length, easier to draw and use in tight spaces.

Also +1 to weed, and avoiding hotsauce. Also, bring DISINFECTING CLEANER SPRAY, AIR FRESHENER, and some PAPER TOWELS. Sometimes you have no choice, the stinky disgusting toilet at the gas station is your only option. No one wants aids from a toilet seat, eh?

Also, bring a portable DVD player + use redbox, or load a laptop harddrive with a fuckton of movies/t.v. shows.

Finally, if you get stir crazy (I do BADLY) plan time for stops. I spent most of the time in the van sleeping as much as I could, because after a couple hours awake in there I would start getting REALLY frustrated. The occasional stop at a convenience store, rest area, or whatever is great. Just the chance to stand up completely for 5 minutes, you know?

Yes, but it's the REALLY expensive way to do it. A $1 bottle of disinfectant spray with bleach and a $1 roll of paper towels at the dollar store will last ten times longer and costs half as much.

Oh, and dryer sheets are your friend when the van starts stinking. Throw 4 or 5 sheets in the van when you're out and about. Shit smells april fresh when you come back in.

I think i'm gonna start doing this in my car. Fuck air fresheners. They're either overpowering or they don't do shit.

I'm gonna be touring with my fagcore bands. I just bringing a tank top, skinny jeans and a bunch of condoms.

Oh and whoever suggested the aluminum T Ball bat. I call that inexpensive security.

you WILL lose batteries, strings, cables, picks, guitar stands, sticks, drum heads, or they WILL get stolen. Bring a bunch of extras in a case and leave it in the van each night; don't truck it in and out of the venue, or you will lose it all at the same time. Then you will have one place to go when you find that need this stuff, instead of freaking & asking locals 'where's the nearest music store?'

Load up on food / snacks & bottled water at a dollar store before leaving. Dollar Tree has a good selection. You don't wanna be spending 3 or 4 times the price on the same items at a highway rest area. Drink lots of water and try to eat some fresh vegetables when you can. 2 large packets of cleaning wipes are a must... one Clorox-type for any nasty club toilets you gotta use, one Wet Ones-type for your stank ass and pits. A travel pillow is a nice item to have also, get a nice memory foam one at Bed Bath & Beyond or something. When you can't afford a hotel and gotta sleep in the van, you'll be happy you did.

Don't go. That's my advice.

Label and organize your shirts by size before you go anywhere, and make sure anyone who's touching the merch knows the system. Some bands use different colored rubber bands. I like masking tape and magic marker.
