hai guyz

looking to buy a decent acoustic guitar to up grade from my 20 yr old yamaha.

Ive been looking in the $800-$1000 range and have my eye set on Breedlove guitars... they've been getting great reviews and it seems they're well worth it. Solid tops, hardshell case, lifetime warranty, the works. I know Martins sound great, Taylors...etc. but they all look pretty flat and basic. Breedlove has some great looking guitars. I love the way the atlas c25 stage looks.

I know theres 1 or 2 people on this board that work at guitar stores and i was wondering if anyone has played them or has any input on them. they have them at guitar center and i'm thinking of making a trip up there.

also caught the attention of seagull guitars... same price range/ features and look good too...

if anyone has purchased a decent acoustic as of late or is currently in the market like myself, feedback would be genuinely appreciated.

thanks,
matt

Breedlove make great acoustics for the money...

I'm partial to Taylor though.

Ive played one seagull and it was great.

However after screwing around on taylors and martins (the guitar, not the troll) I fell in love with their sound.
But you really care about what an acoutsic looks like??

to be totally honest, i'm very partial to 20 year old yamaha's. lol.
is it a nappon gaki?
check out eastman guitars.
you could try to find someone local that could build you one too. save some cash and get something different than whats out there. don't have to settle for whats out there now.

I love my 20 year old Yamaha. Have never found anything better, and I've looked.

owned a seagull for 2+ years. it was magnificent.
However, during the monsoon in Sikkim, the neck did slightly warp, leaving the action impossibly far away from the frets. I ended up giving it to a small indigenous man cause i didnt want to lug it halfway around the world again.

all in all I loved that guitar

thanks guys...

i love my yamaha too but its time to upgrade when the tuners are coming off the headstock and there's a 5"x10" judas priest sticker covering the shitty preamp/pickup bologna. i don't like playing acoustic guitar because of it.

gonna head to beantown tomorrow afternoon... to at least test drive a few.

take it all the way off, very carefully. usually squirt some hot water in there and let the glue soften up a little bit, then use a flat long blade/spatula type object to gently pry it off the body of the guitar. if the top itself has bubbled up, or a portion of it has taken a dive towards the soundhole, then you have to carve into the bottom of the bridge and make it match the new and unfortunate contour of the top of the guitar. glue it together with hide/wood glue (preferably hide glue)and let it set/dry for a couple days.
even at that, the top can't be reshaped really... unless you take the top off, remove all the bracings, and steam/press it flat. which then requires refinishing. and then reattaching all the bracings with hide glue. then glue the top back on, clamp it with some spool clamps and let it sit for a couple days.

it's not worth doing on anything unless it's something pretty valuable/historic. the removing of the top anyways.

bridge reset's not such a pain in the ass.
