I was always a big fan of Snake Rattle N Roll. There was a Pirate game I used to play for Genesis all the time too, but that's not necessarily difficult. Just a lot of scenarios to play with. Super Mario World is always a good way to eat up time too.

I should probably just name off the games I HAVE beaten to help you guys out:
Silver Surfer
Battletoads
Blaster Master
Ghosts and Goblins
Ghouls and Ghosts
Super Ghouls and Ghosts
Chakan
Zombies ate my neighbors
Castlevania
Castlevania II(sucked my nuts)
Castlevania III
Castlevania IV
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Castlevania: Dracula X(also sucked my nuts)
Rocket Knight Adventures
Sparkster: RKA II
Smash TV
Various Mega Mans
contra
super c
strider
gunstar heroes
alien soldier
target earth
I know I'm missing a few but thats basically the whole list. No RPGs don't count as hard games.
I think Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is 32-bit but it's still a side-scroller and amazing. I've seen Yeti play that game more than anyone's ever played a video game. Ever.

Beat that too. Its one of my favorite Castlevania games.
anybody ever played Out Of This World for SNES? real unique side scroller adventure on a dystopian alien planet, had a movie feel to it and excellent graphics for the time.

games for SNES/NES
Super Mario 2
Super Battletoads
Strider (impossible)
Super Mario All-Stars
Contra (never beaten and never will beat)
Blaster Master (same as above)
Kid Icarus (also impossible)
are you referring to Lost Levels? once you get the hang of it, it's a blast. i actually play that more than i do the first one.
Indeed. I apparently never got the hang of it.

Never beat Contra huh? Fuck, I can't count how many times I've blown through that. I did grow up with it though.
All Contra games are fucking HARD. Gradius, Legendary Wings, Karnov, Ninja Gaiden trilogy off the top of my head are all ridonkulously difficult so give those a go. It doesn't hurt that all of them are tubular either.

THANKS FOR REMINDING ME

when i was a young lad i didn't have the skills to judge a bad game, so i played a lot of friday the 13th, and i never made it far, but walking around the houses screen-by-screen used to scare the hell out of me because jason would be sitting there ready to knife you.
i don't think that game was THAT bad but it was fucking impossible.

Fuck yeah! OOTW is awesome as well as the very similar Flashback. I love old adventure games.

Oh, play Blackthorne. It's the same guys who did the RTS Warcraft games and some of the enemies are Orcs. You can get it on SNES, Gameboy Advance, 32X or PC.
crystalis
sonic spinball
arkanoid
bubble bobble
yo noid
a boy and his blob (can't believe they made this for the wii, must play)
punch out
teenage mutant ninja turtles
in all there are 790 nes games. beat them all. you won't.

BLACKTHORNE IS SO GOOD. its just like Flashback/Out of the World/Prince of Persia but more bad ass.
This song is from the first Power Rangers game for SNES and this song fucking rapes. another sick song to play on bass. one of my favorite video game songs ever ever ever. coming from me, that means a lot.
bad game is BAD. Imperium is a terrible space shooter game and the sounds they used for the music were sort of terrible too... but there ARE a couple of awesome songs in the soundtrack. like this one.
This game rules. I used to know the secret for getting the napalm launcher by the 2nd level...I think you just had to die in the preliminary level if I remember...anyway good game that I never beat, I should do that.
i already beat target earth ark. read the posts in the thread foo.

"BLACKTHORNE IS SO GOOD. its just like Flashback/Out of the World/Prince of Persia but more bad ass. "
Exactly how I feel. Also, Knights of the Round Table is one of my favorite games ever. That game never gets enough credit, just like Magic Sword. God, I got play through those again on my PS2 soon.
In non 16-bit related news, I'm playing Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and it's fucking awesome. Also at Chrono Trigger endgame, going to go through the Black Omen for the second time to get all the techs and shit. rpgs are falze
Tales of Phantasia... play it. love it. you can find an english translated rom all over the place. AMAZING soundtrack... fighting system that mimics 2d fighting games... pretty cool story. all around awesome game.
Konami really did have the best overall music of the 16 bit generation. Castlevania and Gradius alone take the cake. All the other games just add to it.
Sonic 2 had great tunes too but Sonic 3's Final Boss, Act 2 Boss, and Chrome Gadget Zone are better than anything from Sonic 2.
I did that. Still one of the best and underappresshed beat em ups ever. The arcade version was tits as well.
That Bowsers Inside Story game looked awesome. I gotta try those games. For DS, play Orcs and Elves. It's like a turn based, grid based action-rpg version of Doom. John Carmack even made it.
Bowser's Inside Story IS awesome. I bought it on a whim for like 6 dollars + what was on my Edge card, played it for about an hour last night, and it is the balls. The tutorials are kind of lame (but necessary) but the gameplay is intense. Uses both screens and maps different buttons to different characters. There's lots of coordination, action/side-scrolling, and leveling up. I'm really impressed by it.
I haven't played the majority of the games he's composed for but I do like the music in Vagrant Story... when it's playing. I'm also about to download FFT on to my PS3 over vacation. I didn't like the soundtrack to FFXII very much. No memorable tracks.
I will upload Jazz Jackrabbit2 for pc if you guys want. It was a sidescroller made by epic mega games in the mid 90s that was meant for sonic fans. It's fun as shit.
Well. Make sure you get Auto Potion ASAP for the main character in FFT. Halfway through the game there is a battle that you will lose everytime...unless you have auto potion.

Remember how I said I was going to download FFT... well it turns out FFVIII is coming to the PSN tomorrow so I'll probably be downloading that instead. I've had a hankering for FFVIII for quite a while. FFT will still be played eventually.
Well that too. Literally, those two games (and maybe Morrowind/Elder Scrolls series) (and NetHack) are most of the reason I'm doing the vidja game school thing. The sandbox thing has been seriously underexplored in CRPGs.
I used to play them. They are more addicting than heroin, and I hate the people that play them. I'd rather whack off in a donkeys nostril than play modern mmorpgs.

i back this. ultima online was cool back in the day when i was a lad. then i played a stint of everquest and i regretted it, then i played wow for a few months and i really regretted it.
The last one I really played was star wars galaxies. I was so poor, couldn't afford a damn house on bespin and eventually gave up after I was banned for disrupting a "wedding"
a) I play pen-and-paper RPGs, which experience has led me to perceive some pretty big gaps in the MMO experience (most of which seem to be plugged up with the morphine-drip-style level ding and epic dropz).
b) Back in the day I used to play text-based MUDs, which at least have the Colossal Caves text/imagination thing going on, and were usually much more thematically in line with my style of gaming (sandbox sword and sorcery, not plot-railroad high fantasy or anime-tinged powergaming).
I don't think you quite understand them. Its not all social networking with a backdrop of a fantasy universe. Most if not all good fantasy and sci-fi MMOs have servers or realms devoted for strictly role-playing. The same as you would do in any pen and paper RPG. These servers within the game are almost always heavily moderated and only fantasy names found within the given games universe are allowed and most guilds will not let you in unless you stay in character while you're in-game. I remember when I first installed WoW and made a character on an RP server. I logged on and started asking normal human questions to the other players about the game. I then proceeded to get bitched at by 10 different people in the world chat for speaking out of character lol. oh and they were bitching at me while in character. some of those players were really creative as far as how they portrayed their race and how that race would speak in person via chat.

being an opinionated douche on this site is awesome. You should try it sometime... Oh, wait.

Starcraft is the best online game ever. It's Newton's 4th law.
RP servers in MMOs are legit but they're held back by the game and it's players...and the inherent need to depend on them. And the time required to play them - which is mostly spent travelling or grinding.

Wasn't aimed at you. You're only opinionated on drugz.
I'm joking anyway, douchebaggery on this forum is fun because I don't know anyone nor really care to
