Just drop your four string with them...

buy a pack of 5 string bass strings... put the b, e, a, and d on it... problem solved.

you can easily play drop C on a 4 string. ive done it many times, just get thicker strings.

FAIL

yes but the problem with doing that is it causes the neck to boe. and id rather not have that happen to a $400 instument..

Go to your local music shop, tell them that you want your bass set up for drop c tuning. That way they can adjust the bridge, neck, and intonation so the neck won't bow or warp when keeping it downtuned. It's maybe 45 bucks at Guitar Center plus the price of new strings.

i guess i could give that a shot. i was just looking for a better sound as well. and the feel of a 5 string just sits in my hands better. i have relle big meaty hands and my 4 string just seems a little puny to me.

im a very large man and i dont feel like buying anything BUT a j-bass. 5 string squier active j basses are 300 bucks... or you could get something similar for 129... very much like i am doing...
