New site? Maybe some day.
|
I'm interested in getting an iPhone soon but wondering how/where I can possibly get one deactivated so I can use it with my T-Mobile account. If anyone has information on how can go about doing that and what risks I may be taking in doing so, it would be greatly appreciated.
If I absolutely have to switch to AT&T I will, but I'd rather not. |
|
I just got one a month ago (with AT&T) and no problems so far, love it.
While I was in asia I discovered an app called 'winadmin' which allows me to use terminal server to operate my PC home/work computer, I was psyched about finding that.
My only gripe is, I still fuckin' hate iTunes, it's a piece of shit. |
|
The main reasons I don't want to switch to AT&T is a) fuck paying a termination fee for my current service, b) I've never had any issues with T-Mobile ever and c) AT&T's service sucks in my town. |
|
you will need to find an iphone orginal, unless you wait till the end of the week when the dev team releases their unlock thing...
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
another thing is though you cannot buy an iphone in the stores unless you sign up for the at&t in the store.
one person last night was upset because they had bad credit and needed to put down $1000 deposit to get this phone. |
|
Holy shit, $1000?! Must have had really fucking bad credit, haha. If I do get an iPhone it probably won't be for at least another week or two. Thanks for the info dude! |
|
Hey Mark I can sell you one for $400, unlocked and it comes with a free case. |
|
why get the iphone when you already with tmobile and you can get the G1? i don't have either but i have friends with both and my friends with iphones don't complain but their shit sure fucking crashes a lot and at&t in this area specifically allston / brighton sucks.
tmobile seems to have better phone service in this area and you've already got it go G1.
verizon here def has the best service here but their devices are more locked up than Auschwitz. their new 'iphone killer' looks like shit as well. |
|
I could get a brand new 16 gig for $300. I appreciate the offer though. |
|
Like you said you gotta sign up with att&t and they suck!!, mine you can use with T-Mobile, we can work something out if you want |
|
To Bob Barker: can you tell me how the phones compare and contrast?
Destroyer: I'll definitely think about it and get back to you in this thread when I've weighed out all the situations. |

or he could pay $300 for a brand new 3G and figure out how to unlock it himself... |

On a spec sheet, the iphone is a bit better: http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/09/showdown-htc-t.html
But it is -sorta- apples and oranges. This guy breaks it down:
The iPhone is an iPod with phone capability. It leads on entertainment but lags on phone capabilities and PDA functions. It truly shines in terms of how the device looks and the iPhone application store has a massive number of applications, unfortunately most aren’t very good, but by virtue of massive numbers it actually has a large number of good ones.
The G1 is a front end to Google’s back end services. It is actually better with things like Gmail and the other Google communications products, it is much better with You Tube, and it has a better browser than even the iPhone has. It lags on both total applications massively and good applications but it is hard to find a bad Google application in their application store because Google focused much more on initial quality of third party applications. The G1 has a really nice keyboard and is vastly better for text entry but a smaller screen and while both the iPhone and G1 don’t have great battery life at least the G1 has a battery you can replace. The phone itself isn’t as attractive as the iPhone but it is a lot more robust and it has a memory expansion slot suggesting, along with the replaceable battery, that it is both more robust and will last longer.

Looks like I'll be heading out tonight to fuck around with both phones to see which one I like better. Thanks for the help! |
|
I am not! fuck you man... |

Technology sucked my dick, and it even cupped the balls. |

technology calls its mouth a pussy |

Nobody in this thread has ever heard of Chinatown?
Virtually every hole in the wall electronics store in Chinatown advertises cracked iPhones with prices from $170-350 |
|
I am officially purchasing the G1 right now. Since I've been with T-Mobile for so long and the dude wants to make a sale, I'm getting it for $40. Regular price: $385 or so. WIN. |

Well if anyone is interested I have an 8GB, iPhone, unlocked, with case for sale, it comes with version 2.0.2 |

yeah that typically happens with re-sellers cause they buy them often and canceled the contract with at&t, but yeah this credit was horrible.
the $200 or whatever is the subsidized price after the two year agreement plan.
but if you wanted to pay the termination fee, you could just run the dev team unlock and use it with tmobile lol |
