nitially, Hideo Kojima announced that he would be retiring as director of the Metal Gear series after Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and would leave his position open to another person for Metal Gear Solid 4. As a joke, the new director was announced as "Alan Smithee", the pseudonym often used by Hollywood film directors who do not wish to be credited for their work. An early trailer for the game also displayed the words "No place to hide", and then the slightly-altered "No place for Hideo?"
In R, a 400-page book bundled with Metal Gear Solid 3's Japanese "Premium Package", the director was revealed to be Shuyo Murata, co-writer of MGS3 and director of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. He has also contributed humorous easter eggs to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel.
However, on May 17 2005, it was announced on Kojima Productions' official website that Kojima will be co-directing the game with Murata, due to substantial negative fan reaction and even death threats.
I read about it in a magazine |

Metal Gear Solid for playstation was one of the few console games I thoroughly enjoyed. I need gank my brother's PS2 some time and rent Metal Gear Solid 2. |
rent MGS3 its a prequel you get to be big boss and slit peoples throat in the jungle |
haha nice. What console is that for? PS2?
And I assume MGS4 is PS3 |
ya its on the PS2 it takes place in the 60s you gotta like bandage and treat all kinds of injuries and kill animals to eat keep your stamina up |
I cannot wait for this game i beat mgs3 by killing all of the bosses with the trank gun [other than the sniper guy who just died cause i didn't play it for two weeks...]
i was actually going to try and beat it with the trank gun the whole way but it was just so hard.
mgs3 is much better than 2 mgs1 is one of my favorite games of all time i beat it countless times. |
MGS 3 reminds me so much of FIRST BLOOD/ RAMBO if you like those movies you will enjoy that game even more. |
i guess in the second version of MGS3 they put out you can control the camera which is awesome but no place around here has it |
i guess i can wait till 2009 when ps3s may be down below 400 |
Is it actual gameplay footage? kinda hard to believe. |
they both there on the second disc of subsistence there where some good ones there is like 10 of them all just joke videos |
I want this game so bad. I just picked up Metal Gear Portable Ops for psp and I guess I'm hoping it will hold me over until I can actually start considering getting a ps3. |
I'm so gay for this series, it's not even funny. This will probably make me buy a PS3. Fuck. |

this game is so addicting.
i love this game. |
SNAAAAKKKEE!!! (X1,000,489) |

Christ, that looks amazing. Sadly for PC gaming, consoles can now compete with PC graphics now due to HD TV's and the fact that the consoles are practically PCs now anyway.
The only thing I still hate about consoles is lack of mice.
Mouse & Keyboard > Controller. |

Aye. Especially for shooters. Show me a gamer playing an FPS with a gamepad, and I'll show you a slow target if I have a mouse.
my buddy used to use a mouse and keyboard adapter to rape all of us at halo 2 on the Xbox 1... |

I heard now some games will allow you to use a USB/wireless mouse/keyboard set up in the future....
Maybe the new Unreal Tournament game. |

I remember they released MGS on the computer. Shit I didn't even think of that with MGS2.. I'll check it out. |

Hey Rev, if that doesn't work I have a couple of copies (the chicks down at game stop think I'm rad). I got them when I picked up mine, hoping I could find someone to give them to so we can play. Unfortunately my bro is the only one I know that has ps3 and he's in the ATL for a week.
I need this game.
I beat all the bosses in the third one with the tranquilizer gun except the sniper dude who just died cause i went over a week without playing. |
i've been on a metal gear kick lately. i think i own every game ever put out in this series. though it is story driven, it does have the most badass game play! |
I guess the online is active any body try it yet?
only 2 maps but damn good |
if anyone is still having trouble with finding beta codes then this is for you. Thanks to a member of gamefaqs (Space cow boy i believe his name was) we can basically call a number give them 9 numbers at random and theyll give you a code.
the number is 1 310 220 8330 its a konami tech. listen to the girl speaking and wait until she gives you the option to press 1 do that and be patient eventually someone will answer and tell them 9 numbers and in return theyll give you an actual beta code back! its worked for me twice now. in casse this doesnt work call back again and tell them you received a beta code but the code has been used to much already use this code : 2G2Q HBBF FJJL
way to get free codes i guess |
how do i get the game to download? |
if you have the code account setup and redeem a playstation network card and enter the code |
a team has been assembled and we're going to plow through this this weekend. |

this is my all time favorite fight sequence in any game! after the first credits roll, when it says "voice of Big Boss"...shivers... |
Some of the cut scenes were lacking and unnecessarily repetitious EVEN for Metal Gear (a lot should have ended up on the cutting room floor and the anime romances were a little too much), and some more actual PLAY TIME would have been great, but the ENDING more than made up for it. It's not better than 2 or especially 3 - some of the MGS4 boss battles weren't what they could have been, but still a fantastic "end" to the series.
Maybe I'll like it better when I play through it again in the future with the ultra hard difficulty unlocked.
To it's credit though, the ending to MGS4 is about as good as a series final can get. |
yeah, it definitely needed a lot more game play. i was particularly fond of the middle east chapter, wish there was more of that! |
yeah that really sucked me in at the beginning, they had a good thing going there, then the game takes you somewhere else...haha |
completely addicted to this now that i own it. |
