I'm thinking a newer Jeep Cherokee sport in gold or silver.






I've never bought a car before so...

opinions/advice/suggestions?

I think I'm going to spend in the neighborhood of 5-7 grand.

that style cherokee for 5-7k should be in pristine condition.

those arent all that expensive.

They are problem-prone. Most end up being lemons...

I've heard mixed stories.

Some people say theirs taken suvere beating and go to like 250,000 without any major services.

and then some people say they have nothing but problems and things falls apart.

I've been told to go for an older model due to recent poor quality controll, so do you think a 95-96 would be a better idea?

I'm expecting to spend about 5,500 including the warantee, but I'll haveto finance it and I haven't established credit yet, so I'm not sure what it will end up costing me in the long run.

i have a friend that has one... he treats it like shit and its lasted him a couple years. its a 96 grand cherokee. it even hauled an engine for me from CT... they ride really well for a rugged man SUV as well.

go for it, my uncle had a jeep that lasted 197k miles before it had major problems

you wont get a warentee on any vehicle that old.

but if you go for it, find one with the 4.0L motor, the 4.2s are pieces of shit, junk motors.

the 4.0L straight six will get over 300k if its well maintained.

looks like I'm going for it than.

The reason I want it is to have a big enough vehicle to haul gear around in, but I want some economic and more environmentally friendly than a huge soccer mom SUV.

It's still kindof big, but it will just barely fit my PA speakers alone. It can get up to 25 mpg which is pretty good considering it's size.

any advice on year?

go there, ask any questions you may have, the people there are very friendly. That is specifically the forum for the 84-01 cherokee.

I use that forum for the 97-06 wrangler TJ discussion, i have found it extremely helpful, many times.

jeep grand cherokiees have had a re-call on brakes recently

get a volvo and a trailer. I'm serious.

I always make jokes involving jeep cherokes and people being pissed about their parents buying them the white one when they wanted a gold one in regards to what white kids have to sing about.
