Pittsfield (the county seat) had (and apparently still has) a small but thriving hardcore scene. Metal was always lacking though there have always been a few exceptions. North Adams is the armpit of the berkshires, however it now is home to mass moca. The combo of mass moca and MCLA has drawn some hipsters to the region and mass moca often has some decent sized indie shows.
