http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/episode/ebola-2474/Overview Just watched this, I guess it hides in the deep jungles of Nigeria and they have no idea what is carrying it into humans. I guess they say with our ever increasing military support there our boys might come back with it, one U.S. soldier already died of it over there after touching a dead rebel. I remember hearing that if ebola made it's way to NYC, Manhattan would be a ghost city in a month.
You should check out the book "The Hot Zone" by Richard Preston. In it, he describes much of the scientific integration with filoviruses. AIDS, Marburg, Ebola Sudan, and Ebola Zaire are all covered. I think Marburg would be more costly than either of the Ebola strains, simply because Ebola kills humans too rapidly, pretty much doing what AIDS does in years in around 7-12 days. Does not give the host enough time to really spread the disease long enough. Marburg, however, is somewhat more treatable, has a longer incubation period, but still has a death rate of around 25%.
