Whether that's a good or bad thing is dependant on the product behind the gimmick. I don't think any genre is more gimmicky than another, though plenty of specific artists from most genres overuse gimmicks and water themselves down by caring too much about the visuals and not enough about the music. If a band call pull off the important elements of a show, I generally won't care whatever their stupid gimmick is and just try to ignore it if it's too bothersome.
