Not my favorite style by a long shot, but a notable mention for this discussion. It's kind of impossible, as others have pointed out, to name the heaviest definitive bands in the world, because there are countless ridiculously heavy bands out there (some of which we probably haven't heard yet). So instead I took the approach of picking bands that were considered watermarks for different takes on metal that pushed the envelope in terms of heavy distortion and brutality.
